Kevin McIntyre

anonymous placeholder

Kevin has had an incredibly rewarding life prior to finding a path to the  cantorate.

He was born in Winnipeg, Canada, and started his professional life as a  singer performing leading roles in Les Miserables, Miss Saigon,  Mamma Mia and The Band’s Visit (selected credits) along with  numerous TV and film productions.

He started bagpiping at 7 years old, to honor his Scottish heritage.  While living in Los Angeles through his 20’s and 30’s, he competed at  many World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, with his  band, The Los Angeles Scots. The LA Scots also performed numerous  times at the Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Concert Hall, and  appeared on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

It was in Los Angeles that Kevin found a spiritual home at Burbank  Temple Emanu-El, where he met his mentor, H’ Daniel Chodos. Under  Dannys guidance, Kevin learned to daven, read Torah, and developed a  profound love for Jewish liturgy. He sang for many years with the High  Holiday choir and later co-led high holiday services. Additionally, Kevin  was often a soloist with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, sharing the  stage with revered cantors, opera singers and musicians .

Upon return to Winnipeg in 2019, Kevin serves as the Baal Koriei at  Congregation Etz Chayim where he leads davening and weekly song  circles with the clergy. In October 2025, Kevin was honored to lead  High Holidays in Dayton, Ohio at The Beth Abraham Synagogue with  Rabbi Aubrey Glazer, a new mentor.

Kevin studied at the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem, has been a  student of Joey Weisenberg for many years, and completed a  fellowship with Hadar and Deborah-Sacks Mintz. He currently serves  on the board of Aleph Canada.

He blends traditional Judaism with modern Renewal melodies, curating  services that honor the past and always looking to the future.

Kevin gratefully acknowledges those who inspired his journey,  significantly his mentor, Daniel Chodos. Deep gratitude to Rabbis  Adam Greenwald and R’John Carrier, Cantors Jalda Rebling and Jaclyn

Chernet, his Winnipeg clergy: Rabbi Kliel Rose and Cantor Tracy  Kasner, his mashpia Rabbi Shawn Zevit, teachers Hazzan Abbe Lyons  and H’Diana Brewer and Reb Marcia Prager. And last, but certainly not  least, the inimitable Hazzan Jack z”l who was a joyous and righteous  force and will forever be a meaningful presence in Kevin’s cantorial and  Jewish life.

Kevin remains grateful to his family who have always supported him,  most notably his beshert Henriette, who has continually been his  greatest blessing.
